El Paso fugitive arrested at Border Patrol checkpoint in southern New Mexico

DONA ANA COUNTY, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Law enforcement officers took an El Paso fugitive into custody early Monday morning.

34-year-old Sergio Florentino lives in the Lower Valley in El Paso, according to jail records.

Dona Ana County Detention Center records show Florentino was taken into custody at the Border Patrol checkpoint on I-25. He is facing two felony charges, one for being an alleged fugitive, and another for having an outstanding warrant, according to jail records.

At this time Florentino is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

ABC-7 is working to learn what led up to Florentino being taken into custody.
