FORT BLISS, Texas -- A person carrying a concealed weapon at Freedom Crossing on the Fort Bliss Army base prompted false reports of an active shooter to spread like wildfire on social media Friday afternoon.

Officials called the incident a miscommunication and took to social media themselves to calm the public, posting "There are no active threats nor incidents on Fort Bliss."

Freedom Crossing is an open-air shopping center on the military base that contains shops, restaurants and a movie theater.
