A car and semi-truck collided along State Road 26 near Hatch on Thursday afternoon, killing an Arizona couple and shutting down the highway at milepost 44 for over five hours.

The head-on collision happened around 2:15 p.m. about two miles outside of Hatch; New Mexico State Police said the car crossed the center line for an unknown reason and ran into the oncoming truck.

Authorities on Friday identified the deceased as 76-year-old Jerry Livingston, the driver of the car, and his wife, 72-year-old Margaret Ann Livingston. The couple were from Tucson.

Authorities said the highway reopened to traffic around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening.
