Police search for pickup driver involved in Dona Ana County deadly hit-and-run

VADO, New Mexico -- New Mexico State Police said Saturday that they were looking for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist earlier this week in Dona Ana County.

That fatal collision happened around 2 p.m. Thursday at 10581 Alturas Street in Vado.

Authorities identified the motorcyclist killed as Guy Hanslin, 54, of Mesquite, who died at the crash scene.

Police said a tan 1998 Chevrolet S-10 truck was traveling south on Alturas Street when it veered left and struck Hanslin's Harley Davidson motorcycle head-on.

The driver of the truck fled the scene, New Mexico State Police said, but they later located the Chevrolet S-10 abandoned at a home in Mesquite.

If anyone has information about the driver involved in the hit- and-run, authorities ask that you call the New Mexico State Police at (575) 382-2500, option 1.
