President Trump posts picture renaming New Mexico ‘New America’

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA)-- On Sunday, President Trump posted an image on his Truth Social account of the state of New Mexico. Although, Mexico in New Mexico was crossed out and America was put below it.

The post is already generating buzz. Democratic congressman Gabe Vasquez sent out a statement that said quote:

"You don’t get to erase New Mexico. Not our name. Not our history. Not our culture.

The President may want to call us “New America,” but we know who we are. Greg Cunningham has pledged himself to Trump’s agenda but New Mexico has an opportunity to elect someone who represents us—real New Mexicans-- not the sellouts like Cunningham."

This comes just a few weeks after Trump signed an executive order on August 27, 2026 renaming Lake Ontario 'Lake America.'
