San Elizario residents deal with odor after sewage spill

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- San Elizario residents still face foul odors after a pump failure led to a sewage spill in a San Eli neighborhood over the weekend

Three days later residents in the area still face visible mud and noticeable foul odors.

The pump that failed was tagged before the spillage for rehabilitation. That contract is set for February.

"We are refurbishing that whole live station with new pumps and everything, but they're not in yet. The contract is probably going to get blown out within the next week or so. Unfortunately, it hadn't started, said Lower Valley Water District's General Manager, Gerald Grijalva."

Grijalva adds they will replace the contaminated soil with new soil as early as tomorrow.
