Bodies of two migrants found on I-10; officials say they were pushed out of car after dying
EL PASO, Texas -- The bodies of a Guatemalan national and a Mexican national were found dumped on the eastbound on-ramp of I-10 east of Van Horn, according to Homeland Security Investigations.
The victims were identified as Rosenda Gomez-Lopez, from Guatemala, and Edgar Vividor-Rodriguez, from Mexico.
Investigators say the two may have died from heat exposure or dehydration and were pushed out of a vehicle.
“Human smugglers are heinous individuals who profit from smuggling undocumented migrants without prejudice and with a clear disregard of whether the people on whom they prey end up paying the final price,” said Frank B. Burrola, special agent in charge of HSI El Paso. “Homeland Security Investigations is laser-focused on ensuring human smugglers face the consequences of their reprehensible actions.”
Investigators say the incident happened this past weekend.
A passing driver reported the bodies on Sunday. HSI El Paso is leading the investigation.
