Former soldier jailed again after violating probation in deadly drunken driving conviction
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A former soldier sentenced to probation in a deadly drunken driving crash less than two months ago is in jail, accused of violating his probation.
Ivan Romo was convicted of intoxication manslaughter on Feb. 9, 2023.
El Paso police said in Jan. 2020, Romo ran a red light, hitting Celso Garcia, 38, as he crossed the intersection on a motorcycle.
Garcia was killed.
Romo was sentenced to 10 years probation.
According to court documents, 243rd District Court Judge Selena Solis ordered Romo to report to jail on March 6 as a part of the terms of his probation.
But Romo didn't comply, and Solis issued a bench warrant for his arrest, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
He even appeared on the sheriff's office's Most Wanted list for the week of March 24.
Romo was booked into the El Paso County Jail on March 24.
The terms of his probation require Romo to serve up to six months in jail.
