EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- El Paso County Commissioners are working to prepare for the potential influx of migrants expected when Title 42 is lifted May 11, 2023.

According to the agenda item posted on the county's website, commissioners will "discuss and take appropriate action on the County's response to migration surges and the effects of the lifting of Title 42."

The CDC health order was put in place at the beginning of the pandemic to stop the coronavirus from entering the country with migrants. The order is now set to be lifted at May 11. On that day, Title 8 will return as the standard for dispelling migrants who cross the border illegally.

The City of El Paso's Disaster Declaration has been placed into effect as of midnight, May 1st.

There are already hundreds of migrants living in downtown El Paso around Sacred Heart Church. EL Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser stated Sunday that there's around 15,000 migrants waiting to cross from Ciudad Juárez into El Paso. The city issued a state of emergency starting May 1.
