LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- A Las Cruces man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting a teen.

50-year-old Johnny Pacheco plead guilty in the New Mexico Third District Court Monday. The court states he was sentenced to 18 years. He will then serve an undetermined parole period and be required to register as a sex offender. He will also be required to undergo sex offender treatment in prison.

Pacheco was arrested in May of 2021. Las Cruces Police say the assault began when the teen girl was 14. The abuse allegedly lasted for four years.

The court says the victim told a relative about the abuse. That relative then contacted police. Investigators say they found evidence on Pacheco's cell phone, as well as the victim's cell phone.

“In this case the victim showed great strength and resiliency in coming forth, her unwavering testimony was crucial in moving this case forward.” said Chief Deputy District Attorney, Heather Cosentino Chavez.
