90 years in prison for second Young Park mass shooting teen

LAS CRUCES, NM (KVIA) - Gustavo Dominguez was sentenced to 90 years in prison for the March 21, 2025 mass shooting at Young Park that left three dead and more than a dozen injured.

Dominguez was 17 at the time of the shooting and was the last of four suspects tried and convicted on three counts of first-degree murder in the shooting.

During this morning's hearing, the family of one of the victims, Dominick Estrada, addressed the court and said, “We will never get to see him walk through the doors with his big, beautiful smile. We will never get to hug him. You shattered an entire family and deserve life behind bars.”

Dominguez was tried under the New Mexico juvenile code so he will be eligible for parole in 25 years.

Tomas Rivas was the first to be sentenced and received three consecutive life sentences for a total of 90 years.

The other two teens who were convicted this year for their part in the shooting are scheduled to be sentenced. Josiah Ontiveros is scheduled for Sept. 30 and Nathan Rivas, Tomas' brother, is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2026. They both face three life sentences or 90 years in prison.
