Chapin beats El Paso in 5A Showdown

EL PASO, Texas - In a battle of two of the top talents in the Borderland, freshman KJ Lewis and the Chapin Huskies picked up a big road win at El Paso High.

Lewis scored 18, and Manuel Flores chipped in 14 as Chapin led wire-to-wire in the 5A matchup.

The matchup between Lewis and El Paso junior Johnny Melvin was highly anticipated, as both players showed early on their potential.

Melvin, the son of former UTEP player Johnny "Smooth" Melvin, got an early block on Lewis that drew the crowd to its feet.

But Lewis got the last laugh, as he proved too much for the Tigers to overcome both in transition and in the paint.

The Huskies move to 17-4, as they next take on Bowie on Friday night.
