El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022: Bruce Gordon

EL PASO, Texas - Bruce Gordon always wanted the very best for his students, whether it was on the track, or in life.

He knew early in life that he wanted to be a coach.

After graduating from UTEP in 1974, Gordon wasted no time and began his coaching career.

Gordon graduated from Coronado High School, and then went on to become a teacher and track coach at his alma mater for 17 years.

Gordon coached at Coronado from 1981 to 1998.

He ended his coaching career at Austin High School in 2006.

During that time Gordon led the Thunderbirds and Panthers to several district and regional titles in track.

Along with being the school's track coach, Gordon also coached the JV football teams.

Gordon left an impact on all of the students he coached.

He had a hand in coaching athletes that went on compete in college, and also at the Olympics.

Some of the athletes he coached even went into coaching themselves.

Gordon died in 2016 after a battle with thyroid cancer.

For all of his accomplishments and the legacy he left behind, Gordon will be inducted posthumously into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will be June 22 and will be livestreamed at kvia.com.
