El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022: Jim Bowden

EL PASO, Texas - Jim Bowden's road to the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame was filled with a lot of hard work and determination.

Nothing came easy to the former Eastwood Trooper and former UTEP Miner.

Bowden fell in love with the game of basketball, and it was that sport that helped shape the man he is today.

In 1976, Bowden won a state title as a member of the Eastwood High School basketball team.

Eastwood remains the only high school basketball team from El Paso to win a state title.

Bowden was the leading scorer for the Troopers that season, and his play on the court caught the attention of another hall of fame coach.

UTEP head basketball coach Don Haskins recruited Bowden.

Bowden played 4 seasons with the Miners before he graduated and then went on to dental school.

Bowden is now a pediatric dentist in El Paso.

He credits his time on the court, and the lessons he learned from his coaches for helping him get through the challenges of dental school.

For all his accomplishments both on and off the court, Bowden will be inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

The induction ceremony will be Wednesday, June 22 and will be livestreamed at kvia.com.
