High school basketball playoffs: Chapin tops Parkland to advance to 5A Sweet 16; Riverside falls to Canyon Randall

EL PASO, Texas - The Chapin Huskies are headed back to the Class 5A Sweet 16.

Tuesday at the Don Haskins Center, the Huskies defeated the Parkland Matadors by a final score of 56-53.

It was the third straight championship in the regional quarterfinals for Chapin, and it will be their third straight trip to the Sweet 16.

A crowd of more than 4,000 gathered at the Haskins Center to cheer on both the Huskies and Matadors.

Chapin will next face Forth Worth Wyatt in the regional semi-finals Friday in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Chapin is the only El Paso team left in the playoffs after Riverside fell to Canyon Randall in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal game.

The final score was 101-51, Canyon Randell.

It was the first time Riverside had made it to the regional quarters since 1998.
