GEORGETOWN, Texas - Bel Air's quest for a state title came up a game short Saturday in Georgetown, TX.

In the Class 5A state championship match the Bel Air Highlanders were upended by the Lone Star Rangers, 4-1.

It was Bel Air's first loss of the entire season.

The teams were scoreless midway into the first half when Lone Star would score the first goal of the match to go up 1-0.

That score would remain until the second half when Lone Star would tack on two more goals to take a 3-0 lead.

The Highlanders would finally get on the board in the 69th minute courtesy of a goal from Ruben Esparza to cut into Lone Star's lead, 3-1.

Still up two goals, Lone Star would add another insurance goal by way of a penalty kick to extend their lead, 4-1.

Lone Star would hold on to win the match by a final of 4-1.

Bel Air was looking to win their second state championship in boys soccer.

The Highlanders won it all back in 2019, and now in 2023 the Highlanders end the season as the state-runner up.

Nothing to be ashamed of for the Highlanders who had a phenomenal season, and will end their 2023 campaign with an overall record of 28-1-1.
