From a Miner to a 49er: Ronald Awatt signs with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent

EL PASO, Texas -- After three days, seven rounds and 259 picks, the 2023 NFL Draft has come to an end.

No Miners or Aggies were drafted but immediately after the draft ended UTEP running back Ronald Awatt signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Awatt had a team-high 734 yards on 163 attempts and rushed for a pair of touchdowns during the 2022 season.

He also led the Miners with a career-best 844 yards on 159 carries and rushed for six scores during the 2021 season. He added 159 yards on 11 receptions, gaining 1,002 all-purpose yards.

As of Saturday night Awatt is the only former Miner or Aggie to sign with a team but that doesn't mean more won't in the coming days or go to an NFL training camp.

Rey Flores, Walter Dawn, Gavin Baechle and Jadrian Taylor are some Miners to watch out for. Meanwhile Trevor Brohard and Chris Ojoh are a chance for the Aggies.
