Former Brewers draft pick returns for EPCC’s first alumni baseball game

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas -- Former El Paso Community College baseball player Hector Bernal is returning to the diamond this weekend for the school's first-ever alumni baseball game.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at 1 p.m. at Eisenga Field on EPCC's Valle Verde campus. Pre-game festivities begin at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

EPCC officials say the alumni game will bring together about 35 to 40 former players for a seven-inning matchup. Organizers say the event gives former teammates a chance to reconnect and gives fans an opportunity to celebrate the college's baseball community.

Bernal played baseball at EPCC during the 2005–2006 seasons. In 2006, the Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

He spent time playing at the Double-A level with the Brewers and later played for the El Paso Diablos from 2009 to 2010.

Bernal's return comes as the Milwaukee Brewers compete in the postseason, with a chance to reach their first World Series since 1982.
