El Paso Locomotive FC

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- El Paso Locomotive FC has officially made club history.

The Locos defeated Phoenix Rising FC earning their eighth consecutive victory and setting a new franchise record for the longest winning streak in club history.

El Paso entered the matchup having won seven straight, tying the previous club record set in 2023. The Locos needed one more win against Phoenix to stand alone in the record books and they delivered.

The historic run has turned Locomotive into one of the hottest teams in the USL Championship as the club continues its push toward the postseason.

Before Saturday's match, El Paso had won seven consecutive games dating back to July.

The latest victory came one week after El Paso defeated Louisville City FC 2-1 on the road. Alex Méndez opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Rubio Rubín added another just before halftime. The victory in Louisville gave the Locos their seventh straight win and tied the franchise record.

Rubín has been a major contributor during the run. The forward entered Saturday tied for the USL Championship Golden Boot lead with 14 goals after scoring four times across his previous two matches.

Saturday's matchup was the second meeting between El Paso and Phoenix this season. The teams played to a 1-1 draw at Southwest University Park earlier this year, with Méndez scoring for the Locos before Phoenix answered in the second half.

Historically, Phoenix had been a difficult opponent for El Paso. Locomotive entered the night with a 2-6-7 all-time record against Rising, with both previous wins coming during the 2022 season.

The Locos changed the history.

Eight straight wins. A new franchise record and with the postseason approaching, El Paso's historic run continues.

FINAL : Locomotive 3 - 1 Phoenix Rising FC
