UTEP football coaches reunite after nearly 20 years

EL PASO, Texas - It's been nearly 20 years since they took the field together, but the band is back together.

Dana Dimel has been at the helm of the Miners since 2018. In his years he’s recruited many players and coaches alike, some of whom he shares a whole lot of history with.

First was special teams coordinator Joe Robinson.

Then he acquired offensive coordinator Dave Warner and defensive coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto.

The fab four were last all together in Houston back in 2002, now they’re in miners country.

“Isn’t that something,” Robinson said.

"I trust those guys with my life and to get back with them and come to UTEP to coach and live in El Paso,” Peveto said. “It has been a dream come true."

When they were last together, the Cougars managed to put a 5-7 record on the board In 2002 after having a winless 0 11 season in 2001.

Now they’re in charge of a UTEP team that went 1-11 and 3-5 the last two seasons.

"There's a lot of similarities to what we went through at Houston and what we've gone through here in coming into a program that hadn't had a whole lot of success," Dimel said.

"I remember that we weren't able to finish a job,” Warner said. “But the talent was there and I feel the same here."

This time around they’re hoping to get the chance to not only turn this team around but finish the job
