DALLAS, Texas - Niesha Burgher was named the 2023 Conference USA Female Indoor Track Performer of the Meet on Tuesday after her successful run in the championships.

Burgher capped her first indoor season with the Miners by taking home three medals, and tying for second with 20 points on the women’s side at the 2023 C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 18-19.

The native of Saint Thomas, Jamaica, captured gold in the 200-meter dash, clocking in a 23.29.

She earned a silver medal in the 60-meter dash (7.38), while capturing another silver medal in the women’s 4x400-meter relay that posted a season-best 3:40.90.

Burgher, a transfer from Western Texas College, is also the current program record holder in the indoor 200-meter dash, clocking in a personal-best 23.17 at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Feb. 11.

She originally set the school record – which had stood for six seasons – with a time of 23.20 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational on Jan. 21.

Burgher beat out Tobi Amusan’s time of 23.35 in 2017.

Burgher opened her UTEP career by taking third in the 200m (23.79) at the Texas Tech Corky Classic on Jan. 14, and followed that performance with the 23.20 at the MLK in which she placed fifth.

Burgher clocked in a personal-best 7.31 (7.33@ - converted for altitude) in the 60-meter dash at the MLK, which ranks no. 1 in C-USA.

Burgher is the first UTEP female track athlete to be named performer of the meet since the honor started in 2014.
