Police: El Paso man with machete taped to hand threatened family, officers

EL PASO, Texas -- A 17-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault after police say he threatened his family with a machete taped to his hand.

El Paso police say it happened Wednesday around 11:08 a.m. at an apartment on the 200 block of Lisbon Street.

Investigators say Daniel Roque also broke windows to the family's second-story apartment, set the apartment on fire, and threw large shards of broken glass at officers.

Police say the family evacuated the apartment for their own safety.

Roque was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained during his arrest.

He faces two charges of aggravated assault and one charge of arson.
