El Paso man drags unconscious driver out of wrecked vehicle moments before it bursts into flames

EL PASO, Texas -- An El Paso man dragged another man out of a wrecked vehicle late Friday night moments before it bursts into flames.

21-year-old Alexyz Mayorga said he was driving back from Downtown El Paso when he noticed a car swerving in between lanes in front of him.

Later on, Mayorga said he saw the same car on Gateway East and McRae swerve and hit a curb, then accelerate and crash.

Mayorga pulled over and jumped into action, first trying the driver's door, which is when he noticed a flame. He made his way to the passenger side and struggled to pull the unconscious driver out, but managed to do so only about 30 seconds before the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

"Luckily I was there, because when I got there he was knocked out. Like, he wasn't even moving. If I was never there, that flame would've just took him," said Mayorga.

Mayorga said the man was taken to the hospital, and that the man's cousins had reached out to Mayorga, saying he didn't remember anything.
