Appreciating El Paso’s public safety telecommunicators
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is an opportunity to recognize the men and women who work diligently behind the scenes to connect callers with an emergency to first responders who provide care and resources.
The National Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) convinced Congress for a formal proclamation in the 1990s.
It has been celebrated around the country since 1994 and is celebrated each year during the second full week of April which coincides with National 9-1-1 Education Month.
The week-long event is designed to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the community.
Telecommunicators are always heard, but rarely seen, and are often described as the calm voice in a dark night that provides light in dire situations.
