El Paso, Texas -- A skateboarder was struck by a car and killed late Monday night near a northeast El Paso intersection along a busy road.

The deadly incident happened about 10 p.m. in the 10400 block of Dyer Street at Grouse Road.

Police said the skateboarder, who they've been unable to identify so far, was riding his board in the northbound lanes of Dyer when he was hit.

The victim died at the scene. Police said he was the 16th traffic fatality of the year, compared to eleven at this time last year.

Dyer was completely shutdown in both north and southbound directions for traffic investigators overnight. It was finally reopened just before 5 a.m.
