El Paso police say woman died in crash after speeding away from scene of another crash

EL PASO, Texas -- A motorist died in a single-vehicle crash over the weekend at a busy intersection in west El Paso moments after speeding away from the scene of another crash she was involved in, police said Monday.

The deadly crash happened around 11 a.m. Saturday at Doniphan and Country Club drives.

The woman who died after crashing her SUV into a light pole at that intersection remained unidentified on Monday, investigators said.

A police report on the incident revealed that the SUV, a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, was fleeing from the scene of a crash involving a city bus and two other vehicles at Doniphan and Redd when the driver lost control and collided with the light pole.

The driver was rushed to a local hospital where she died a short time later.

Both investigators and witnesses said the SUV was travelling well above the speed limit on Doniphan at the time of the deadly incident, which marked the 26th traffic fatality of the year in El Paso.
