UPDATE, Dec. 17: The pedestrian struck and killed on the Border Highway last weekend was has been identified as 23 –year old Noe Toribio De La Cruz of Guanajuato, Mexico.

Police said Thursday that his death was the 68th traffic fatality of the year in El Paso.

UPDATE, Dec. 14: Police on Monday said an unidentified 23-year-old man was the pedestrian struck and killed over the weekend along the Border Highway.

A newly-released police incident report said the man was crossing Loop 375 westbound about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday night when he was struck by a car, "causing the man to be thrown into the traffic's eastbound lanes. The pedestrian suffered severe injuries and died at the scene."

The two people in the car were unhurt, police said. There was no indication that any citations would be issued.

It was the 68th traffic death of the year in El Paso, the same number to have occurred a year ago at this same time.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Dec. 12: EL PASO, Texas -- A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed along the Border Highway late Saturday night.

Traffic investigators said they were summoned to fatality scene around 10 p.m.

Police indicated the victim was hit by the vehicle on the Cesar Chavez Border Highway East at Paisano Drive.

No further details were immediately available.
