Police release image of car sought in deadly east El Paso ‘road rage’ case

UPDATE, Feb. 26: Police on Friday released an image of the car being sought in a deadly "road rage" attack earlier this month in east El Paso.

Authorities asked anyone who can identify the vehicle to call the Crime Stoppers of El Paso hotline at 566-8477(TIPS) or go online to crimestoppersofelpaso.org.

"You will remain anonymous and, if your tip leads to an arrest, you may qualify for a cash reward," police said in a statement.

UPDATE, Feb. 22: El Paso police on Monday said a man run over by another motorist last week in a "road rage" incident has died of his injuries as they also released a description of the vehicle sought.

Police identified the victim as 39–year-old Jose Guzman.

Detectives said no arrests had yet been made in the case; they were still looking for the driver who ran over Guzman in east El Paso and then fled the scene.

The car sought by police was described simply as a mid-size sedan, red or maroon in color.

Investigators say the "road rage" incident began on Loop 375 north before the vehicles exited onto Bob Hope and the attack that left Guzman dead occurred.

UPDATE, Feb. 19: El Paso police on Friday said a case of "road rage" led to a motorist running over another man with his car and then fleeing the scene.

The 39-year-old victim, whose name wasn't released, was hospitalized in critical condition with severe head trauma following Thursday evening's assault at 1201 Bob Hope Drive in east El Paso.

A police incident report released Friday detailed what investigators said unfolded:

"The victim, who was traveling with his wife and child at the time, pulled into a parking lot following the interaction with the other driver. As he approached the vehicle, the unidentified suspect accelerated, striking the victim and knocking him to the ground. The suspect then proceeded to run over the victim and flee the scene."

The attacker who fled has not been identified or arrested at this point, police said. They asked anyone with information to call Crimes Against Persons detectives at 915-212-4040.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Feb. 18: EL PASO, Texas -- A pedestrian was struck by a car and severely injured in east El Paso late Thursday afternoon.

It happened about 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Bob Hope Drive near Joe Battle.

Fire officials said the pedestrian, identified as a man believed to be in his mid-30s to 40, was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

A car that sat parked was marked off with police crime tape at the scene.

No further details were apparently available.
