Police name 2 dead, 1 hurt in northeast El Paso car crash

UPDATE, July 28: Police on Wednesday indicated two El Pasoans were killed and a third injured in a two-car crash in northeast El Paso the day prior.

The deceased were a husband and wife couple identified as 65-year-old Dennis Edmund Marenius and 66-year-old Anita Ellen Marenius; she died at the scene, while he died after being hospitalized.

The injured motorist was identified as 23-year old Keanu Canady, who was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Investigators said the Marenius' car failed to yield, turned in front of the Canady's car and was t-boned at the intersection of Dyer and Ameen.

The two deaths were the 38th and 39th traffic fatalities of the year in El Paso compared to 46 this same time
last year, according to police data.

ORIGINAL REPORT, July 27: EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- One person was killed and two others were hospitalized with injuries after a two-car crash in northeast El Paso on Tuesday morning.

Police said it happened around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Dyer Street and Ameen Drive.

Authorities have not revealed any information about the person who died or what may have caused the crash.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area as investigators worked to examine the deadly collision scene.
