Odessa man struck by truck, seriously hurt on I-10 in west El Paso

EL PASO, Texas -- Authorities were investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was struck by a semi-truck and seriously injured along Interstate 10 in west El Paso.

El Paso police said it happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday on I-10 eastbound at mile-marker 7 near Transmountain.

The pedestrian, identified as 44-year Fernando Garza of Odessa, was rushed by ambulance to University Medical Center and remained hospitalized Thursday with life-threatening injuries.

According to a preliminary police report, the semi-truck driver noticed Garza walking in the roadway and swerved into the next lane to try and avoid hitting him. However, police said a portion of the truck's trailer struck the Odessa man.
