ABC-7 First Alert: One more evening of rain and storms then drier through the week

Good afternoon all. After a wet and rainy night, we are in for something very similar, another wet and rainy night :P. The only thing that has changed is where the widespread storms tonight will be. Yesterday, the International Airport saw 0.30" of rain which is a decent amount for just one day. NMSU saw 0.35" in their rain gauge from yesterday.

The best moisture has shifted slightly to our west. Storms are already popping up south of Dona Ana and Luna counties. That's not to say we in El Paso and Las Cruces won't be seeing any rain tonight, in fact, I think it is likely we will. But the chances for widespread rain across the entire city have dropped.

I think we will have a few dry hours this evening after 6 to around 9 PM tonight. After that, I think the rain will be moving in from the south. However, the best lifting mechanisms to get these storms going are not as clear as they were yesterday, nor are they parked right over our area. It seems where these storms will rise and where much of the heaviest rain will be over the Gila Wilderness.

Still, you'll want to drive carefully on slippery roads. If roads look like they are covered with running water, it's best not to drive into them. After tonight, Wednesday and the rest of the week will be a bit drier with mountain storm chances as well as warmer too.
