The ABC-7 StormTRACK Weather team issued an ABC-7 First Alert for Friday.

Colder temperatures, winds, scattered rain expected as a storm system moves across the region today. Light snow started falling in area mountains this morning and should continue off and on during the day. El Paso and Las Cruces will experience scattered light rain and cooler temperatures today so the jackets will be a necessity.

West winds will also pick up throughout the day-- when the cold front moves in winds will shift out of the northwest. Winds will peak near 35 mph. The strongest winds will be across Otero and Hudspeth counties.

The winds and wind gusts will diminish by tonight. Drier air moves in on Saturday but it will be a chilly afternoon. Temperatures will warm up Sunday through Thursday before the next system moves into the area.
