ABC-7 First Alert: More showers expected today

El Paso, Texas- We've been tweaking the forecast with every model run, but one thing is for sure... you're going to need the umbrella and rain jacket today.

This morning I've been tracking moderate to heavy rainfall in the east.

There's still a lot of uncertainty about how these showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon. Yesterday we didn't see a huge break in the clouds, that would have allowed us to see that daytime heating igniting thunderstorms.

We need that trigger to ignite these storms. More sunshine and temperatures heating up will allow that lift to create strong thunderstorms.

So far I believe we will still see rain showers across the entire viewing area. I don't believe we'll have a breakage in the clouds that will allow that daytime heating to occur though. Moderate to heavy rainfall is still possible which could lead to flooding in poor drainage areas.
