Severe weather threat ends in Otero & Hudspeth counties

EL PASO, Texas -- The National Weather Service office in El Paso issued a Tornado Watch Saturday for Culberson and Hudspeth Counties in west Texas and Otero County in southern New Mexico.

The Tornado Watch had been scheduled to be in effect until 9 p.m. Mountain time, but the weather service said the severe threat ended earlier than expected, and it cancelled the Tornado Watch about an hour early.

Some storms did form during the afternoon hours in the Hudspeth and Otero areas, prompting Severe Thunderstorm Warnings during both the 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. hours., with some of those storms producing ping pong ball-sized hail and 60-mile per hour wind gusts.
