GoFundMe set up for teenager killed in fiery crash in east El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Family members of the 17-year-old killed in a fiery crash Saturday night have set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.

On the GoFundMe page family members said, "My brother was a young man who was full of life and was a happy guy." The family said they are devastated.

On Saturday night police officials responded to a rollover crash near 11700 Pebble Hills in east El Paso.

Police officials confirmed a 17-year-old man was found dead inside a vehicle on fire.

Officials said the 14-year-old male driver and a 13-year-old female passenger fled the scene. Officials said they were picked up by someone else.

Both teens were found in a hotel nearby. They received severe burns from the crash and were taken to the hospital. They were flown to the Lubbock Burn Center.

Police said the driver was traveling west on Pebble Hills at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit a boulder in the center median causing the rollover and then hit a light pole.

The vehicle was found to have been reported stolen days earlier. The crash is still under investigation.

The parents said their son's name was Saul Castro. They said he dropped out of school two years ago. Although they tried to convince him to go back, they said he wasn't easily persuaded.

Catalina Castro described her son as kind, full of life and always looking out for others.

She said her son would frequently hang out with the driver of the stolen car. She said Saul called him his best friend.

Castro said that Saturday night Saul was going to hang out with that friend like usual. Saul had asked her for gas money.

"I gave him a kiss. He said, 'Mom, I'll come right now.' I know he is going to come back. I am waiting for him. I am waiting for him to come back because he told me he was coming," Catalina Castro said.

Castro said after the crash, two officers showed up at her home to alert them of his death. She said she and her husband are still in disbelief.

She said 80% of her son's body was burned.

Castro said she reached out to the mother of the 14-year-old driver. She has not heard back.

Castro was furious when she learned the other two teenagers left the scene, including her son's friend.

"He was trapped. No one was able to help him. Imagine the pain that he was suffering there alone, I don't want to imagine," she said.

She said if roles were reversed, her son would have saved his friend.
