A strong peso is disrupting the balance of the Borderland economy

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- Many Borderland residents are used to crossing the border every day, with many living on one side and working on the other one.

As ABC-7 reported in June and on Sunday's ABC-7 Xtra, the value of the Mexican peso has been increasing the last few months.

This has helped people in Mexico who want to exchange their pesos for U.S. dollars; but what happens to those converting the other way.

People who usually exchange dollars for pesos or who do wire transfers from a U.S. account to a Mexican account have noticed that they receive less money with each transaction. That makes the buying power of the U.S. dollar weaker in Mexico. For an economy that relies on binational trade and commerce, this change has the potential to disrupt consumer's ordinary habits.
