Santa Teresa man allegedly chases ex-wife’s car while shooting at her, ending in crash at east El Paso intersection
EL PASO, Texas -- A New Mexico man was jailed Friday on $100,000 bond after police contend he chased his ex-wife's car while firing a gun at her, culminating in an apparent crash at an east El Paso intersection.
35–year-old Daniel Villareal of Santa Teresa was charged with aggravated assault stemming from what police called a "family violence incident" that unfolded Thursday afternoon along Pebble Hills Boulevard at Red Sails Drive.
His ex-wife was treated at Del Sol Hospital for what were described as minor injuries after police said he "assaulted her by striking her in the head with his hands" after their vehicles stopped at the intersection.
Police on Friday gave this summary of what led up to Thursday's alleged assault:
"She was being chased and shot at on the roadway... Villareal was firing a handgun from his vehicle, while he pursued her... Villareal began ramming (her) vehicle with his Dodge Ram pick-up, causing Andrews to stop her vehicle. Villareal exited his vehicle, pointed the handgun at (her), and proceeded to assault her..."
While investigators said Villareal fired multiple rounds that struck his ex-wife's vehicle, she wasn't hurt from any of the gunfire.
