Deputies Look For Woman Who Allegedly Abandoned Cats In Apartment

LAS CRUCES, NM. – Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a woman suspected of animal cruelty.

Wednesday, officials with the Sheriff’s Office removed a number of cats from an apartment in Vado (NM), 18 miles west of El Paso.

Deputies responded to the complex after neighbors called animal control Tuesday complaining about 18 to 20 cats which had been abandoned in the apartment.

According to officials, the apartment is rented to 40-year-old Barbara Russell. According to officials, Russell hasn’t been seen at the apartment for about two weeks, and it’s not clear if she’ll return.

Deputies tell ABC-7 there’s a warrant out for her arrest.
