Man Accused Of Beating Daughter To Death Will Stand Trial Again

LAS CRUCES,-Theman accused in the fatal beating of his five-week-old daughter will stand trial again.

35-year-old Eliazar Urrutia Quinones first stood trial earlier this year on charges of child abuse and child abuse resulting in death.The judge presiding over his trial declared a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a verdict in the case on February 22, 2007.

Court documents state baby Diana Quinones had breathing problems and was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces on January 11, 2005. She was transferred to an Albuquerque hospital, where she died four days later.

An autopsy showed the baby had several broken bones and died of massive brain injuries.
