Get Ready for a Chilly Start: Cold Weather Update

Happy Sunday, with today's high expected to reach 76 degrees, it's time to prepare for some significant weather changes on the horizon. An ABC-7 First Alert is in effect as cold air marks the season's first chilly spell.

Currently, a backdoor cold front has primarily held back against the Sacramento and Guadalupe Mountains, but it's slowly progressing westward towards the ridge of the Sacramento Mountains.

As this front approaches, there's a possibility of encountering drizzle and fog on the eastern slopes of the Sacramento Mountains this morning.

Gusty winds are on the agenda too, with sustained winds predicted to increase to around 15-25 mph tonight and into Monday morning.

Expect gusts of 35-45 mph, especially along the west slopes of the mountains.

Furthermore, the Sacramento Mountains are likely to experience freezing temperatures tonight, leading to a Freeze Warning for those areas.

Meanwhile, a Freeze Watch has been issued for most lowland regions, except the El Paso metro area and the lower Rio Grande Valley, for Tuesday morning.

Although some lowland sites could dip below freezing, particularly in sheltered areas, a more widespread freeze is expected for Tuesday morning.
