Roswell Police Officer Sentenced In Battery Case

ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) – A Roswell police officer accused of punching a man after a church-league softball game has been sentenced.

State District Judge Charles Currier (on Monday) ordered Mikel Aguilar to serve one year of supervised probation and complete 100 hours of community service. Currier also ordered Aguilar to attend anger management classes and pay $150 in restitution.

Aguilar pleaded no contest (May 14th) to a misdemeanor charge of battery. Court records say Aguilar was off duty when he punched someone on an opposing softball team after a game on July 24th, 2006. Aguilar has been with the Roswell Police Department for six years. He’s been on leave since last August 26th.
