He’s charged with one count of Felony Murder. 22-year-old Isaac Mark Ramirez and 26-year-old Benjamin Tapia also had guns on them when they were caught just hours after the shooting.
Bond was denied for Menchaca, Tapia is in custody on a $500,000 cash bond only and Ramirez remains in custody as well held under a $50,000 bond.
Police say it all happened at a house party early Saturday morning. The shooting has the community saying goodbye to a man who spent most of his time working with troubled youths. Co-workers of will Lucero say he focused all his efforts at making sure at-risk youths stayed away from trouble.
Friends and familycan’t make sense of the irony behind his own murder “Someone gets angry doesn’t like something and tries to take another life in their hands, that’s what Will was trying to prevent,” said a friend of Lucero’s. Several vigils are being organized to commemorate the man who devoted his life to public service. A rosary service is being held on Thursday, September 14 and Lucero will be buried on Friday.
