Ft. Bliss Loses 2 More Soldiers In Iraq

WASHINGTON – The Department of Defense announced today the death of two Fort Bliss-basedsoldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Killed were:

Cpt. Timothy I. McGovern, 28, of Indiana.

Spc. Brandon W. Smitherman, 21, of Conroe, Texas.

According to Department of Defense officials both died Oct. 31 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations.

Both soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
