Juarez Police Quell CeReSo Riot

JUAREZ – Juarez police took several hours to regain control after riot at the Cereso prison that was started by two rival gangs.

Video taken at the scene shows men being carried out on stretchers and a dark plume of smoke coming from one of the prison buildings.

The video also shows inmates from opposing gangs – the Aztecas and Mexicles – throwing smoke grenades, rocks and other objects at each other. Dozens of officers in anti-riot gear were seen entering the prison.

Officials have not confirmed reports that three men have been killed. They did confirm the riot started at about one in the afternoon.

According to authorities, many women and children who were visiting inmates at the prison at the time the riot started were being evacuated.
