Credit Union To Donate Blankets For Children, Needy Families

EL PASO — First Light Federal Credit Union will be donating 200 blankets to the Extreme Weather Task Force for El Paso’s elderly, disabled, and needy families.

The blankets will be delivered to local fire department headquarters, 8600 Montana at 10 p.m. Donations from the public will also be taken from the public at that time. Any previously unused blanket will be accepted.

Colder weather being forecast for the El Paso area this week. Among those who are most susceptible to the cold weather are the elderly, who may be unaware of their limitations.

Due to limited mobility, elderly residents may be forced to spend increased amount of time exposed to the cold weather due to slow ambulation.

Another at risk group are young children, whose thermoregulatory system is still immature.Babies rely on adults for warmth.

Fire crews urge the public to remember the importance ofmonitoring children, and to practice the “buddy system,” to performregular checks on elderly relatives or neighbors.
