Judge Putting Together Order In Carlsbad Pay Dispute

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) – A state district judge who ruled against Carlsbad in a dispute over firefighters’ salaries is putting together a final order in the case.

Judge Jane Shuler Gray ruled in favor of the firefighters last month. She awarded them a one-time 15 percent raise that an arbitrator ruled they should have. Attorneys for the firefighters prepared a final order in the case.

But the city objected to it and presented one of its own. The main disagreement was over whether the city should pay interest on the wage increase. The judge heard arguments over the order yesterday.

She says it probably will take several days for her to put together a final order in the case.
