Man Killed Attempting To Cross The Street Early Tuesday Morning

EL PASO, TX. – El Paso Special Traffic Investigators said a man was killed early Tuesday morning while attempting to cross Alameda Avenue in Central El Paso in a motorized wheelchair.

Officials said 83-year oldEduardo Ramirez attempted to cross the roadway in his motorized wheelchair. He wasnot at a crosswalk and was struck by eastbound traffic around 7:15 a.m.

53-year old Jaime Vargas, driving a Ford pickup, was unable to avoid hitting Ramirez as he ventured out into the street.

Mr. Ramirez was taken to R.E. Thomason Hospital where he died of his injuries. Police officials said this is the 50th traffic fatality this year as compared to 40 for the same time period in 2006.
