New Study Recommends Pregnant Women Cut Caffeine
A study released Monday is issuing warnings to pregnant women about caffeine. While earlier research have suggested caffeine might increase the risk of miscarriage, the new study shows a much stronger link.
Researchers followed more than one-thousand pregnant women. Those who consumed about one and half to two cups of coffee orfive cans of soda a day, haddouble the risk of miscarriage.
Those who drank lessstill appeared to increase their miscarriage risk by as much as 40 percent, the data showed.
It’s not just pregnant women who should reduce or even cut out caffeine. Study authors say it isalso a good idea for those trying to get pregnant.
The March of Dimes, a leader in maternal health, will now change its recommendations on caffeine.
