Fire Crews Pull Man From Burning Car

EL PASO –ABC 7 has learned the name of a man who was rescued from a burning car early Saturday morning.

44-year-old Gerardo Alvarez,a Northeast El Paso resident, isnow being treated at the Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center in Lubbock.

Fire crews rescued Alvarez from avehicle that had caught fire while parked at the corner of Memphis and Pershing streets in Central El Paso.

When fire crews arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m., they found flames and heavy smoke coming from the car. Emergency responders pulledAlvarez out of the car and started life-saving procedures.

Alvarez was listed in critical condition at the Burn Center as of Saturday evening. He is receivingtreatmentforsecond- and third-degree burns.

Alvarezworks for Texas Gas Service, and company officialshave pledged to help him in any way they can, ABC 7 has learned.
