Man Burned In Car Fire Dies
EL PASO — The man pulled from his car after it caught on fire this past weekend has died, ABC 7 has learned.
Gerardo Alvarez, 44, was rushed to the burn center in Lubbock for treatment of second- and third-degree burns after emergency crews pulled him from the front seat of the vehicle.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning at Memphis and Pershing. Alvarez may have been overcome by the smoke inside the vehicle, as rescuers noticed he had slumped over on the steering wheel.
Investigators said the fire started in the engine and spread to other parts of the vehicle.
Alvarez is survived by a wife and two young boys.
